Jamaica's Rural Water Supply CompanyThe Rural Water Supply Company, formerly Carib Engineering Corporation Limited (CECL), started April 1983, is wholly owned by the government and was set up to implement the Yallahs Pipeline Project that was meant to be the first phase of the Blue Mountain Water Supply Programme. CEC's role was later expanded to include responsibility for island wide supply schemes, and eventually changed its name to become Rural Water Supply Limited (RWS). Its objectives are to improve the basic sanitary/health conditions by increasing the coverage of potable water and sanitation services in poor rural areas. Water and Housing Ministry has advised that a master plan is being developed to increase the delivery of potable water to rural communities. This initiative, they said, is being undertaken by the Rural Water Supply Company, formerly Carib Engineering Corporation Limited (CECL), and is in keeping with the government's goal of providing all rural communities with access to the amenity by 2015.
